The History Channel’s American Pickers Are Scouting The Northwest & Whidbey Island

The History Channel’s hit show American Pickers are scouting in the state right now to film shows in Washington later this month. They have never been to the PNW before. They’re looking for leads and one of their producers really loves Whidbey Island. Of course WE want them to come to Island County and the Oak Harbor Area.

The show wants interesting characters with intriguing antique items, and lots of them. Their favorite picks feature multiple buildings crammed with piles of cool stuff. They dicker with the owners and buy what the owners are willing to sell. They are modern day archeologists and the show is educational as well as entertaining. It is very popular right now. Huge.

I mentioned Maritime History and Naval Aviation History to the producer –and they were very interested —- because they have not done those before — and they tie in well with our islands. They are not as interested in farms, because they film a lot in the Midwest. They’re also looking for movie and music memorabilia, sports memorabilia, and basically any other oddball, one-of-a-kind, or interesting historical items you can think of.
I should clarify that they’re only looking for people with LARGE collections, not folks with just a few items, and they don’t go to shops, antiques malls, auctions, or flea markets.
They’re also NOT currently looking for any fine furniture, agricultural or farming items/equipment, depression glass, appliances, or pottery. Here’s a link to the show’s website and videos:

Please have any of your leads contact Sherrye immediately.
