Think you need to leave town to watch quality live theatre? Think again. Just down the road from the GO Realty office is a
renowned center of entertainment and talent.
The Whidbey Playhouse is a historic downtown Oak Harbor landmark that has been providing outstanding live entertainment to our community for decades. People seeing a Playhouse production for the first time are usually astonished at the level of talent that exists right here in our community – but it’s not just the actors and singers that make these shows so enjoyable. Every production is directed, produced, built, decorated, costumed and performed entirely by volunteers.
There is always something fun (for people of all ages) happening at the Playhouse. Take a look at just a few of their upcoming events:
April 30 – Night of a Thousand Laughs improv & comedy show
May 14 & 15 – Auditions: ‘A Bad Year For Tomatoes’ (comedy)
May 15 – Annual Membership potluck
May 20 & 21 – Auditions: ‘Talking With’ (drama)
May 21 & 22 – Auditions: ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’ (musical)
Also coming up this summer: ‘Annie’ hits the stage in June; in July, a Renaissance Faire, and in August, the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ More information about these events is available on the Playhouse’s website. You can also stay up-to-date via Facebook and Twitter.
If you’ve ever considered getting more involved in your community – the Whidbey Playhouse is a perfect place to start (active duty military: this is a great way to obtain community service hours). Through donations and the support of dedicated locals just like you, our beloved community theatre is able to thrive and entertain, year after year.
There is so much happening right here in Oak Harbor. Next time you’re tempted dress up and drive to Seattle to catch a play or a musical, just head to 730 SE Midway Blvd instead – we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
